Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc has taken a step further in its Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives by sponsoring a symposium on Breast Cancer awareness organized by AIESEC, University of Ibadan Chapter recently.
The Symposium which was organized in collaboration with Radiotherapy Department, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, is tagged ‘Breast Cancer is my business, Your Business and Everybody’s Business”.
According to the Vice President, Projects of AIESEC, Ibadan, Mr Patrick Oluwaseun Orlu, the seminar is being organized to help communicate and educate the public on current information, research outcomes and evidence-based practices in cancer awareness. In his words “AIESEC is an international, independent, non-political, not-for-profit youth organization which aims to promote cultural understanding, entrepreneurship and youth leadership; we have decided to tackle the issue of cancer because it is fast assuming greater importance in health agenda throughout the world. In Nigeria for instance, about 100,000 new cases occur every year, and by the year 2010, about 500,000 cases are expected to occur annually”.
While justifying the Sponsorship of the symposium and the partnership with AIESEC on the awareness campaign, the Head, Corporate Communications and Brand Management of Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, Mr. Segun Bankole stated that “Sovereign Trust Insurance plc has decided to throw its weight behind this awareness campaign because we can not afford to close our eyes to the realities of this ravaging pandemic, like we have always been doing, we are, by sponsoring the symposium giving back to the society where we are doing our business” According to Bankole “apart from helping to educate people, the Campaign will help to allay people’s fear as well as provide information about breast cancer screening, consultation and specialist referrals, care, counseling and support for those living with cancer”.
The gesture coming on the heels Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc’s recent visit to Living Fountain Orphanage and Little Saints Orphanage to make donations has further helped to restate the Underwriting firm’s resolute commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility. The company’s CSR initiatives over the years have been extended to various spheres of our Social Climes which include Health, Sports, Education, Entertainment and so on.
