Leading underwriting firm, Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc has pledged its support to the activities of a non-governmental organization, Media Campaign on Insure Nigeria (MCOIN).
According to the Head, Corporate Communications/ Brand Management of Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, Mr. Segun Bankole, MCOIN is doing a wonderful job all over the country in the area of creating awareness for Insurance services, hence the decision of the organization to throw its weight behind the initiative.
In his address to the Children at the 2009 edition of the “FRSC Children’s Day Celebration” held at the Premises of The Lagos State Command of the Commission in Ojodu, Lagos, Bankole stated that the company has decided to join other organizations in participating at the event because the company is committed to giving back to the Society where it generates its businesses; hence the reason for donating corporate gifts to the kids at the event. In his words, “We cannot but celebrate with the kids, especially on a day like this, for the future belongs to them”.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Lagos Command, Commander Jonal Agwu, said the annual children’s programme was designed “to educate the younger ones on safety measures when using the road so as to reduce the carnages on our highways across the country. He lauded the efforts of companies that supported the programme and urged every Nigerian to adhere to safety measures.
A Director and founding member of Media Campaign on Insure Nigeria (MCOIN), Mr. Enoch Okonta, said the organization’s participation in the children’s day event is a demonstration of its quest to ensure that people especially the young ones are educated on insurance and safety measures aimed at securing lives and properties. He said safety can not be achieved without insurance which helps to mitigate risks. He lauded the efforts of Sovereign Trust Insurance plc, in donating corporate gifts to the children who he considers are the future prospects for the insurance industry in the country.
Okonta also called on Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc to sustain its leadership position in the area of awareness creation, noting that the low insurance penetration in the country is an aftermath of the poor reception of insurance services by the insuring public over the years given to low insurance awareness and education.
