The Insurance Company that is set to redefine the business of underwriting risks in Nigeria, Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc in its traditional fashion of setting the pace and in line with its stance on the unwavering commitment to sporting development at all levels, is partnering with the Lagos Polo Club to host the 2009 Edition of The Lagos NPA International Polo Tournament.
The yearly event which has come to be associated with much pomp and fanfare will be holding from Saturday, 31 January to Saturday, 7 February, 2009, at the Lagos Polo Club, in Ikoyi, Lagos. The tourney will feature most of the top polo players in the country with about 19 teams competing for laurels during the one week event.
In a statement issued in Lagos by the company’s spokesperson, Mr. Segun Bankole, stated that “the gesture is a further indication of the company’s avowed commitment to the development of Sports in the country”. In his words, “we will be unrelenting in our commitment to the ideals of giving back to the society via the Sporting Platform as we have identified it as a potent tool for national integration in every sphere of our endeavours”.
In the same vein, the Managing Director of Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, Mr Wale Onaolapo succinctly puts it “We are associating with this kingly game because it is in line with our brand positioning of being a leading brand in the insurance industry in Nigeria. As a mark of its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility via the Sporting Platform, Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc was the official Insurer to the participants of the 4th Edition of the Dr. Sam Ebosie National Swimming Competition held recently in Lagos.
Just about this period last year, the company sponsored 5 Nigerians to the 25th edition of the African Cup of Nations held in Accra, Ghana.
